Collaboration is key at OK KINO. The Moldavian brand comes to the fashion table with a multidisciplinary approach that combines the team's backgrounds in architecture, design, and traditional arts into cohesive, minimalist collections. This unique creative process feeds their sustainability initiatives, creating garments from remnant fabrics and incorporating traditional Moldavian craftsmanship. We chatted with OK KINO co-owner Darya Golneva about the design scene in Moldova and the memories woven into their most recent collection.
Your approach to building a fashion business is more like a collaboration, pulling in different design fields. How did that influence your initial process and show up in your brand?

From the beginning, we have drawn inspiration from various fields of design, which is evident in our process of deconstructing familiar items and reimagining them in unique ways. This method reflects our transformative approach, combining elements from urban life and traditional Moldovan culture to create contemporary clothing. By incorporating details from different design fields, we ensure that our collections remain personal.
What don’t people know about the fashion scene in Moldova?
The fashion scene in Moldova is rich with skilled artisans and local production capabilities, which many people might not be aware of. We have the opportunity to work closely with these talented individuals, ensuring a high level of authenticity in our products. Our brand frequently incorporates elements of Moldovan culture—from references to local traditions and architecture to the textures and patterns reminiscent of rural life.
What draws you to a more minimalist style?
